Gold Rush

Have you ever had a moment of inspiration fill your heart like a sudden rush? It’s a reaction to an instinct so strong you can physically feel it come over you-providing clarity, strength and direction. The Wonder Woman effect-you know the one-the moment you realize the mission. You’re ON-its GO time-whether you like it or not. You have heard from that yet small voice. I can pinpoint the very few times in my life when I have had this feeling-Crucial, decisive moments.

Children’s Tables

Last week I posted a brunch table setting for the mimosa drinking crowd, but let’s not forget the little ones. Holidays are a fantastic opportunity to create place settings fit for the smallest of guests. Including color, texture, and activity in a child’s dining experience are ways to ignite interest, appease the senses and keep them satisfied to remain in their seats.

Delighting In The Details

Setting a table like this one doesn’t have to be a complicated task at all. Start with a little advance work. When hosting brunch, the window of morning prep time can sometimes be pretty slim.  There are a few time consuming details which can sneak up on a hostess, if not carefully considered.

Treasure Hunters

I saw it written that we should be “treasure hunters”, searching for the gold in ourselves and others. I love it. How could a goldenthread girl pass up this treasure of a metaphor:)

I marvel amount of time invested in these searches. Discovery quests spanned lifetimes, through dynasties, and changes of the crown. Early explorers weathered storms, disease, battles, seasons of vast despair. Yet, onward they travelled, seeking land and gold.

Miss Minnie’s Legacy

A visit to my childhood home, “Up Yonder”, is a departure from city life. Through the gate and up the hill, Miss Minnie throws her arms open wide and hollars “Howdy, I’m just so proud to be here!” Her hospitable legacy is echoed in nature. Thousands of daffodil blossoms grace the hill side, as if to say hello and welcome. They open their faces to the sun each morning and close to the moon each night.

Happy Gal-entines!

Happy “Gal”entines to my 94 year old girlfriend! I called to talk to Mimi this morning, and I got voicemail. It’s hard to catch her. No doubt she’s out doing something for a friend, with a friend, or a group of friends. I’ll hear about it later, when she calls me back. Mimi is the original girlfriend. Her friends and her community count on her to be there with her energy, creativity and ingenuity-and she delivers. She still drives around her hometown in her Jeep Grand Cherokee.
